Sometimes pet stores sell sick dogs or cats. Sometimes those pet stores get hit with huge class action lawsuits because of this. No matter how careful a breeder or pet store is, the pets that they sell to unsuspecting customers become sick. The problem comes in when breeders and pet stores knowingly sell sick or injured pets to customers, and don't do the right thing to correct it. Hence the huge lawsuits against breeders and pet stores.

A classic example of a class action lawsuit against a pet seller is the lawsuit filed by the US Humane Society against the pet store Wizard of Claws in Pembroke Pines back in 2007. The legal premise for the suit was that the seller was defrauding pet owners (fraud).

The reactions to this class action suit were overwhelmingly against the pet store:

"All these stores, should be shut down. There are too many animals that are bought and then turned in to an animal shelter because it has lost its puppy cuteness. I am an animal lover I have owned up to 5 dogs 3 of them which are still with me today. It is just inhumane what we do to animnals. But what should we expect when we have no kindness for human life either."

These animals are not purchased from friendly little families who give them love and affection - they're purchased from puppymills and this whole practice needs to be stopped! "Do not buy puppies from pet stores, even those that seem to sell healthy animals. Visit the Human Society on Griffin Road or Broward Animal Control adjacent to the Ft Laud Airport. There you will find hundreds of animals worthy of adoption. My dog escaped my yard and was brought to Animal Control. I found her just hours before she was to be put to death. Do not patronize pet stores when hundreds of animals are available at these shelters."

I could go on and on as there are literally hundreds of similar comments from pet owners. The point of this thread is this: 1- Dog and cat breeders must be careful to do the right thing. If you sell a sick animal, take care of the problem by quickly offering to pay the vet bills, replace the pet, or offer a full refund. 2- Be careful where you buy your puppy or cat from. Make sure that the seller has a clearly spelled out return policy.

this makes me sick... the over breeding and puppy mills... a dog in now a commodity! Unless there are tight regulations ans finds it will just worse.

We just had the HSUS and the local police and authorities raid a puppy mill not 5 miles from where I live. They found over 700 animals that were not in good shape at all. There were over 200 puppies and most of them small breeds. I had heard things about this breeder over the years but had no clue it was nearly that bad. It literally made me sick to see that and the condition of the animals.

I could not imagine treating any animal that way. She did sell most of her stock on the internet and to pet stores as well. It is awful that pet stores do not do any more research on who they buy from. I would NEVER buy from a pet store due to this. There are many reputable breeders around if you want a pure bred dog or pup and so many animals at the shelters if you want a mixed breed or even some pure breeds that have been taken out of bad situations.
