Lightbulb My Dog

I wanted a place to be able to tell everyone about my dog, and hopefully you can tell all of us a little bit about yours.

My dog's name is Inkie. She is a miniature poodle that is 14 years old. As her name implies, Inkie is a dark black, just like ink. Inkie honestly believes that she is still a puppy, even though she is probably past her prime. She jumps all over our house like a 1 year old pup, chases after our cats like a wild girl, and she doesn't know when to back down from a fight.

We get Inkie's hair cut once a month from a dog groomer that we have used for many years. For some reason our crazy poodle has grown to love the groomer, and the groomer obviously returns Inkie's affection. We keep Inkie decked out in bright bows, a collar that spells her name in diamonds, painted toenails, a classic poodle haircut, and special outfits for holidays. She thinks that she is some kind of beauty queen. I wonder why?

Inkie has been in our lives for many years, but she decided to move in with us when her former owner (a VERY close family member) passed away almost two years ago. Since our crazy poodle has known us all of her life, the adjustment wasn't too bad on her.

We love Inkie more than anything at our house. All three of our kids just love to get Inkie excited, and she has been a true blessing for us. me and Inkie didn't get along too well at first, but she has grown on me in ways that I never expected.

That's our little puppy. Will you tell us about yours?

I have a Labrador Retriever named Sneakers who just turned one year old last June 2008. I named him such because he chewed on my favorite green sneakers when he first arrived here.

He was a gift from a friend and she showed him to me before she shipped him. He was a fat fat puppy, the fattest of the bunch, and I was supposed to name him Snickers but decided to change the spelling instead.

I had him since he was two months old. He's a very adorable puppy and very obedient as well. He greets us when we arrive from work and he jumps all over the sofa when he gets excited.

He loves taking a bath. Every time he sees me holding his towel, he would grab it with his teeth and pull me towards the bathroom. After a few minutes, he'd get frantic and want to go out and he'd reach for his towel and give it to me so I can dry him off. When we go out of the bathroom, he would become excited and jump all over the sofa, the bed, me and my mom. Then he'd pick up his towel and run around with it all over the house.

Come feeding time, he's quite obedient. He'd patiently wait for his bowl to be set down and he automatically looks at whoever is holding his food to await instructions. Sometimes we make him sit or lie down before he gets to eat. He loves snacks and he knows we can't resist his puppy dog eyes, especially my mom who's a sucker for my dog. She'd say "Oh he's getting thinner (even though he's really ginormous) we need to feed him something" or "Look at him, he's hungry. Give him something to eat" (even if he had just eaten). He loves to eat and he gobbles up almost everything. If I'm eating in my room, he'd sit beside me and stare at my food probably hoping to get a piece. Sometimes he'd go near enough to catch a whiff but other than that he doesn't steal what we eat.

Sneakers sleeps in my room. When I turn off the light he'd hop onto my bed and lay onto one of my big pillows and play with my arms or my head (he'd "tap" me with his paws to get my attention), after a few minutes he would hop down and sleep on the floor but he usually jumps back up in the middle of the night to lay his head on my tummy or my chest.

I'm an only child so he's like my baby brother and my mom is just crazy about him. He's bigger than my mom now, so when he jumps up on her she usually loses her balance and falls down. She treats him like a baby and sometimes she even forgets about me because of him but it's all good.

He loves electric fans. When someone turns one on, he'd find a spot in front of it so he would get all the air and leave none for us. He also loves resting his chin on the car window when we take a drive. He loves the wind on his face.

Sneakers is a very friendly dog. I only heard him growl once at a man because he was surprised when the man tried to touch him quickly. He usually smells first time visitors then he'd jump on them or play with them. He's very playful and he loves to play ball and he'd fetch anything we throw. He also loves being scratched. He's very ticklish, he'd stomp his feet uncontrollably even if you just pat a part of his back, it's so funny.

I don't let him run on his own when we're outside cause someone might try to steal him since he goes with anyone, although I doubt they'd try to take him especially since he's huge, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

So that's my dog Sneakers. Anyone else want to share stuff about their beloved dog/dogs?

INKIE sounds so amazing. She's the one who jumps off your bed right? Good to know she gets along with your kids and not act like a prima donna since she gets a lot of special treatment.

My brown lathed german shepherd is named Brownie.. Not by me but my friends. And she's one of the most active dogs that i had till now among all. She was just 3 months old when i got her home and she is 2.5 years old now so you can estimate how well she has adjusted with us, and the main thing being here that she is loved by every family member of mine.

As soon as anyone of us reach home and open the door, she jumps up on us and waves her tail in happiness. I am a vegetarian so feel a bit uneasy when feeding her the food she likes i.e. chicken and meat.

I take her out for walking everyday for about an hour and she walks silently but as soon as she reaches home, again becomes fully active. When some stranger arrives at home, i have to keep her tied up as she frowns upon anyone. But she accepts any new animal introduced to her.
I just love Brownie..
