There are so many reports of pit bulls mauling other dogs and children. Do you feel that they should out law owning the breed altogether? I know some areas like Miami already have laws in place for this. I am torn but feel that they are a very dangerous breed and need to be monitored at least.

ya they r very dangerous.they should be monitored first or else should make an outlaw owning those breed dogs...

Hi, I'm new here. I had to read this thread as soon as I saw it. I don't think they should be outlawed. I think the breeding and owning of Pits should be monitored closely. In the wrong hands a Pit can be dangerous, but so can any other breed. Pits need to be trained and handled differently, just like any other two breeds of dog. I know from experience that a Labrador can be trained one way, but it's difficult to train a Boxer in the same fashion.

I went to a shelter once and there was a sign that said "Do not touch dogs with clamps on kennel". I walked into the dog room and every Pit had a clamp on it's kennel. There was a yellow Labrador in there that did not have a clamp on his kennel, but when I went to let him sniff my hand he became very aggressive and tried to bite my hand through the wire fence, whereas most of the Pits were as friendly as can be.

A neighbor had to put down their pitbull because it go too rough with one of his children. Being he was close to the pet I advised him to check out a few websites like http://www.primaurns.com/ to somehow memorialize the dog that he felt bad about, but told him he might want to keep the keepsake in the garage.

Any medium to large size breed of dog can be dangerous. Pitbulls are in the news most often, simply because of two factors:

1) Most popular dog (number wise) in the history of the US
2) Sadly, irresponsible owners

i think that pitts are the best pets in the world if you love them and train them right non violently they could be your best friend people just want to own pitts because it make them look good but too many of them are ending up in the wrong hands i think if a pitt does something wrong the owner should be competly liable because its the owners fault if they turn out bad

The breed of of the dog (pit bull, pug, rottwieler) is irrelevant, except for what they were originally bred to do; by that I mean instinct (as with a retriever, etc) always know that before-hand. Dogs have been domesticated and bred for man's bidding for thousands of years. I have owned dogs all of my life (and I mean from the time I was 4 years old). I had my pets, my Grandpa had has hunting and herding (working dogs). My point is, the dog is what we make make it. So, I firmly believe that if you want to own a dog, you'd better find out exactly what you're getting, and exactly what you are capable of handling, not just what you think you can control. There is no dog that cannot be a fine pet; but, not to everyone. Think about it before you do it!!! Marsha Dendy, Anchorage, AK

They should not be out lawed. The owner should be fined with a charge that says that they may not own a dog(or pet) for a period of time. That is what I believe in strongly and I always read tons of books before I get ANY pet. Please handle your pet responsibly!!
