Have you guys heard about the Greatest American Dog show coming to TV soon? I just saw a commercial for it so I thought I would check it out. Here is everything I could find about the Greatest American Dog reality show:

In this new CBS reality show, dog owners and their pets live together in the same house as they compete to see who is the best. The show will have competitors from pageants and from people who have trained their dogs at home.

CBS has announced canine critics Wendy Diamond, Allan Reznik and Victoria Stilwell will serve as the judges for Greatest American Dog, an America's Next Top Model-like competition series for pageant pooches and their owners which will premiere Thursday, July 10 at 8PM ET/PT.

Diamond is the editor-in-chief and founder of Animal Fair -- an animal lifestyle magazine and website dedicated to fairness to animals and responsible breeding.

In addition, she's also appeared on numerous television news programs; is the author of two books; is the co-producer and host of Animal Planet's Lucky Travels; and serves as the executive producer and host of the special Paws for Style.

Reznik has spent the last three decades in the dog world working as an owner, breeder, trainer, dog-show exhibitor, handler, judge and media commentator. He is currently editor-at-large for Dog World and Dog Fancy, and editor-in-chief of Dogs in Review.

Stilwell serves as host for It's Me or the Dog -- on which she dispenses techniques for positive, reward-based dog training. She has also published two books and has had her dog-related writings appear in numerous magazines and newspapers.

Hosted by zoologist Jarod Miller, Greatest American Dog will follow 12 "pageant dogs" who will live together in a house with their respective owners.

They'll compete against each other in a series of challenges designed to measure each owners' ability to train their dogs, with the winning team taking home the show's $250,000 grand prize.

Just what you were looking forward to! Another reality show... this one with dogs and their owners. Professionally and home-trained dogs will compete against each other for the title of the Greatest American Dog in CBS's summer line-up of new reality shows.


Casting calls for dogs and owners were open to any form of dog talent. Thus, show dogs, agility dogs, talking dogs, hunters, obedience dogs, and musical dogs were all invited to the calls. AKC breeds and mutts were all welcome. With such a wide casting call for the Greatest American Dog (the second working title), no telling what dog talents the first few shows have lined up!


The dogs and owners selected to appear on the Greatest American Dog will live together for the duration of the show (or until eliminated). They will compete against each other in a variety of training challenges, provided by the show, that will focus on the abilities of the trainer to ready the dog for each competition.

Really? That is another record breaking show, I guess. I don't have a cable at home so I might not get the chance to watch it. Can somebody share the episodes to me when it starts airing? hehehe...
