| Removing hazards from your floor and low areas are things that need to be considered before or immediately after bringing home that new puppy. Puppies are very curious by nature and as human babies are famous for this, everything they find goes into their mouths. It is very easy for a puppy to get choked on small items that are frequently in the floor especially if you have small children as well. One way to keep this from happening is to get down on your hands and knees and tilt your head sideways so you can see from their level. Remove any items that could be choking hazards. Something else to watch out for are kids balloons as these can choke a puppy and there is little you can do to remove them from the pups mouth if they ingest a piece of balloon. We also keep our pups in an enclosed area like a little play yard which keeps them from wandering into places that might have things around that could hurt them. These you can get at any pet supply store or old play pens work well for little puppies as well. |

| Some other things you want to watch for is if you have stairs or an area you do not want the puppy to be playing in, there are gates you can purchase like the infant gates to keep them from wandering around the house. Look also for dangling cords or fringe on rugs. Its better to remove any rugs with fringe as they can get choked on it. Puppies love to chew and wires seem to be ever tempting. I have had to purchase several new mouses and also headsets. I did find a headset on Ebay that they will not chew through and that has been heaven sent here! |
