Default What Is Your Favorite Brand Dog Food?

What is your favoirte brand of dog food? I feed my Lucky just generic stuff and it seems to work fine.

However with your dog, what is your preference and why?

I don't usually feed my dog food with dog food only if I run out of bones and meat. I am using Alpo as his food. He likes it.

For a long time I thought all dog foods were pretty much equal, however when I started breeding my toy poodles I found out from others who have been working with animals a lot longer than me, that this is not the case. I recommend looking at the ingredients of the dry dog food that you purchase before using it. Most of the cheaper brands have as the main ingredient, corn. This makes dogs more gassy and have a lot more frequent stools, which makes the dog have to eat a lot more of the food to keep full. The better dog foods like Iam's or Nutro have a base of chicken or lamb which are digested better by the dog and last a lot longer in the dogs digestive system. This makes the dog actually eat less and gets more nutrition from having more protein in their diet.

What was with the news way way before regarding pedigree and alpo? Are these brands really bad for dogs?

I used to feed my Lab pedigree and alpo but since that news came out I switched to HiPro and Hollistic. It's a little more expensive but he likes it. He eats dry dog food for breakfast then for dinner he eats the meat that we cooked for him.

I feed my puppy with the Innova EVO dry dog food. I gave it to my puppy after reading the reviews done on several food comparison sites.

Look for following things before you buy any dog-foods of any brands >>>

# No generic fats or proteins (e.g., animal fat or meat meal)

# Human grade ingredients (USDA approved).

# Avoid foods that use corn gluten meal, a cheap waste product from the human food industry that provides incomplete protein for dogs.

# No meat by-products or digest (meal is OK).

# No BHA, BHT or Ethoxyquin (artificial preservatives)

# No artificial colors, no sugars and sweeteners (such as corn syrup, sucrose, ammoniated glycyrrhizin), no propylene glycol (added to some chewy foods to keep them moist, toxic in large amounts).

# As few grains as possible (a whole-meat source should be one of the first two ingredients, preferably two of the top three) -- watch for splitting, such as listing ground yellow corn and corn gluten meal as separate ingredients which together might add up to more than the first ingredient. Note that canned foods often have fewer grains than dry.

# Added taurine.

# Meets AAFCO Specifications.

Also, You should feed your puppy 3-4 times a day. Puppies have different nutritional needs than adult dogs. Choose a puppy food that provides the appropriate balance of nutrients your puppy needs. Be sure they are getting the right amount of protein and calcium, and the proper amount of calories. Check the label to determine if you are feeding your puppy a balanced diet. Meat should be the first ingredient on the label.

However, there are some brands that provides high nutritional benefits to your puppy like one over here >>>> http://www.agritura.com/index.php/ca..._Dog-Food.html
