Default Sharing "People Food" With Your Dogs

I've never had a problem sharing table scraps with my dogs, but my in-laws swear that it is terrible for dogs to eat people food. Anyone else have thoughts on this?

Default occasional cleaner

On most of the days we have vegetarian Indian food and not in the habit of wasting food so no question of left overs
When we have non-vegetarian food we do give him some of it and he likes it.
Not sure if its good/bad o give left overs but i'd rather avoid it

There are several people foods that can be toxic to dogs. Chocolate is a big no no. Grapes and raisins can be toxic too if too much is ingested. I have found that proteins are quite good for dogs and give my pregnant females extra chicken or eggs or cheese when they are carrying. I also feed mine a spoon full of plain yogurt per day as its great for their immune systems.

I don't personally think that ALL human food is bad for dogs as some people suggest. Sure, they don't need to be eating potato chips and ice cream (but those things aren't exactly healthy for humans either).

Yes, dogs have nutritional needs that are different from humans, but I don't think that commercial dog food is the only way to meet those needs. What about the centuries (millennia, even) that commercial, specialized dog food didn't exist? Obviously dogs did just fine on what they killed or scavenged themselves, or what was given to them by their owners.

If an owner is careful about it, I think a diet of human food can be fine for dogs. Some people swear by the "raw food" diet. Of course, table scraps from most of our tables don't meet our own nutritional needs, much less our dogs....but that's a whole other can of worms!

We have had dogs in the family since I was a kid and all those times we have fed them with food that we ate. I just don't know from a strictly technical point of view, but based on experience our dogs have been quite healthy and good. We really cook food for them and not just give them leftovers as a general rule.
