My mom does this all the time cause our Lab patiently lies down near our table while we're eating but there are times when he sits beside us maybe cause he's really hungry by then. She gives him rice (which she wasn't able to finish) and few pieces of food.

It sort of acts like his snack or appetizer because after we eat we give him his food.

It's probably not healthy but it's what we're accustomed to doing, besides at least he gets to taste what's on the other side of the table--so to speak.

I try not to share people food with my dog as it encrouages begging if you ask me.

yeah I agree with the begging part but my mom finds it hard to resist him. She says he always looks hungry. That's probably why my dog's so big cayuse he gets extra food all the time.

Making home made dog food is probably one of the best (if not the best) things you can do for your dogs health and long life. Be aware however that dogs often have allergies to certain ingredients so you will want to be somewhat systematic when starting your dog on home made foods. Some of the main culprits are beef, dairy, chicken, wheat, chicken eggs, corn, and soy. Commercial dog foods can also cause allergies by the way. A lot of health problems (and behavioral problems) are actually allergic reactions.

You can always share human food with dog, it will not cause any harm to it. You can even feed them with pedigree which is good for health.
