We have some little grandchildren and our kids are thinking about getting a new dog. What breed of dog do you think would be best to own around small children? Our grandkids are 6 months and 3 years old. Of course we want a very peaceful puppy that would never bite the children. Which breed would be best, in your opinion? ![]()

I've heard the same thing about dachshunds. They r so sweet looking 2! ![]() I have also heard that poodles are really good around small children, but I'm not sure about that. We used to have a miniature poodle that would bite if she thought you were stealing her food. ![]()

| one that does not BITE! But I was alway told labs are good... I guess it really depend on the temperament of the dog... and I would thing the younger the better... last thing a dog need to to is fight for his possessions in the family afer he was the king of the last house he was at.

yes if you want to get a puppy you need to rasie it from a puppy so you can train it the way you want it to be trained and labs are good if you want an outside dog lol i have inside dogs though lol Monica

I suggest you get a Labrador. Based on the stories of my friends who has Labrador in their homes, it doesn't bite the children even if they are teasing them.

I honestly think it is most based on a dogs personality - not there breed. Thats like being racist with humans and has no basis. Sure - dogs have certain instincts based on breeds, but personality is what counts the most.

In my opinion you can take almost any breed of dog and make them great to have around children, as long as you get them when they are young. The exception is any breed that has been trained for generations to fight such as pit bulls. ![]()
