I saw on the news where a pit bull attacked a kid and ripped the toddler's face open! The pit bull ripped at a toddler's face and left this scar, but it's supposed to go away. Luckily there was no eye loss or anything severe and eventually it'll disappear. And it's undecided whether or not the pit bull will be put down. This really makes me angry. With such a young kid, why would you have a pit bull? I can understand if the dog was there before the kid, but if not? And then again, the kid was probably playing with the bull and irritating him and the dog got fed up. Do you seriously blame him? And now they're basically, what, killing him? And also the kid was left un-attended with the dog. First off, what kind of parenting is this? Secondly, this whole situation is messed up from the very beginning. Any other inputs on this? (no offense to the parents whatsoever.) ETA: This also just adds to the bad reputation pit bulls get when really they're great dogs and they don't deserve it.

I heard some news about this as well. There are different sides to this story: 1. Can we really blame the parents? I mean if the dog has been behaving quite well, maybe they thought they could leave the kid with him. Okay maybe it is wrong. Dogs aren't baby-sitters. 2. Maybe the dog did get pissed off. Kids can be very playful and that includes hitting, pinching, slapping and squeezing stuff, in this case the dog. 3. I don't believe the dog should be put down. He probably doesn't have any problems whatsoever. Dogs have limits too, they can get pissed off just like us. I agree that pitbulls do get stereotyped as vicious beasts but it's not their fault. If someone's to blame, we should blame pitbull trainers cause they're the ones who teach them to be killers. Some pitbulls are nice especially those who are trained like normal dogs and not fighting dogs.

I don't blame the dog. I have an experience like that. My 2 year-old nephew was with my dog. I am at work and my sister-in-law was busy reviewing for her board exams. The unexpected happened. My dog bit my nephew. Before that incident, there are a couple of times when my nephew teased my dog to the point that my dog will get mad. I asked the nanny what happened and she said she did not know since she was not there at the moment. It is not to be blamed on my nephew neither to my dog. I blamed it to the nanny that is supposed to be watching over my nephew. I hate that nanny. She was fired. Last edited by patty; 07-01-2008 at 11:34 PM.
