Default Questions to Ask A Breeder When Purchasing A Puppy

These are some basic questions that should be asked of any breeder when you are interested in purchasing a puppy from them.
1. Are the puppies parents on the premises
2. Is the puppy up to date on shots and worming, Can the breeder provide records of this?
3. Has the puppy been vet checked for problems
4. How many litters has the dame had? What age is the dame?
5. Does the puppy stay in the house with the breeder or has it been kenneled?
6. Has any training such as paper training been done with the puppy?
7. What type of socialization has the puppy had?
8. What type of temprement does the puppy have? Is the puppy active and playful, shy, like kids, etc
9. Is there any inbreeding in the puppies lines?
10. Can the breeder provide you with a pedigree or give you access to look it up online?
11. Does the puppy come with registration papers from AKC?

These will help you to get a better feel of what type of breeder this is and how they raise their puppies. By asking these questions up front you can save yourself time and effort by weeding out the ones that refuse to answer your questions or sound iffy on the phone.

Great list of questions to ask the dog breeder!!!

On the vet check one, I would maybe add that you should ask for actual papers from the vet too. Any reputable puppy breeder would gladly show you a receipt from the vet checkup. You also shouldn't be afraid to call the vet and make sure that everything is on the up and up.
