I have always wondered if an older dog should be having puppies. I know that nature makes it impossible at some point, but would it be better for us to not allow our dog to breed after it reaches a certain age? I'm sure that it is harder on an old dog to have pups. What do you think? ![]()

I am a hobby breeder of toy poodles and most breeders do not like to breed females after the age of 6 or 7 at the latest. It does matter as to whether the dog has had litters in the past. I would not breed a bitch who had not ever had a litter past the age of 5. Hope this helps.

It is not recommended to breed older bitches who haven't bred till now. I agree with the previous poster. The bitch won't be able to take it, especially after it crosses the age of 5. In case the bitch has had litters, you can go ahead with the breeding
