![]() The Meet The Press show that will air on Sunday 6/15/2008 will be the first Meet The Press show without Tim Russert. The host of the show Tim Russert died from a heart attack during the week. Tom Brokaw will lead the special tribute to his friend and colleague. He will be joined by long-time Tim Russert friends Mike Barnicle, James Carville, Betsy Fischer, Gwen Ifill, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Mary Matalin and Maria Shriver. The show will devote the full hour to highlights of Tim's remarkable life and career on "Meet the Press" with a handful of people who were among those who knew and loved him best. Mike Barnicle is known for his biting, to-the-point commentaries, both in print and on television. He has hosted several award-winning documentaries for WCVB, including "Armed and Dangerous," an incisive look at the proliferation of guns in this country; and "Justice On Trial," a critical examination of the Massachusetts judicial system. He also reported and hosted "Suffer The Children," a moving documentary about children at risk.Barnicle is a columnist for both the Boston Herald and the New York Daily News, host of a radio program on WTKK-FM in Boston and provides regular commentary to MSNBC. James Carville James Carville (born October 25, 1944 ), is an Americanpolitical consultant, commentator and pundit. Also known as the Ragin' Cajun1, Carville is considered a very effective Democratic political operative. He gained national attention for his work as a strategist in the successful 1992 presidential campaign of then-governor Bill Clinton. (David Wilhelm was the campaign manager.) Carville was the co-host of CNN's Crossfire until its final broadcast in June 2005. Betsy Fischer is the executive producer of “Meet the Press.” Gwen Ifill became the first African-American woman in history to host a prominent political talk show on national television. A veteran news reporter who had served as the New York Times's White House correspondent, Ifill left an NBC job to become the moderator of PBS's Washington Week in Review. Doris Kearns Goodwin Doris Kearns Goodwin won the Pulitzer Prize in history for No Ordinary Time: Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt: The Home Front in World War II, which was a bestseller in hardcover and trade paper. She is also the author of the bestsellers Wait Till Next Year, The Fitzgeralds and the Kennedys, and Lyndon Johnson and the American Dream. Ms. Goodwin serves as an NBC-TV news analyst and lectures around the world. She lives in Concord, Massachusetts, with her husband, Richard Goodwin. Mary Matalin Mary Matalin formerly served as assistant to President George W. Bush and counselor to Vice President Dick Cheney, and was the first White House official to hold that double title. Maria Shriver is a veteran TV news reporter and a member of the prominent Kennedy family. She is also the first lady of California, as she is married to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. |
