NBC has announced that Tim Russert's funeral will be closed to the public. As mentioned in another thread here, Tim Russert died from a heart attack. He had been battling many heart disease conditions such as coronary embolism, coronary thrombosis, and asymptomatic coronary artery disease. The country is already morning the loss of the Meet The Press host that was a staple in political journalism.

The funeral for Russert will reportedly be closed to the public with many Washington news companies closing for the event. The flags at the NBC headquarters are at half staff which is something normally reserved for statesmen. Survivors include his wife, Maureen Orth, a writer for Vanity Fair magazine, whom he met at the 1976 Democratic National Convention; and their son, Luke.

Tim will be sorely missed by many of us. If I hear about flowers or other donations that can be made in his honor I will pass them on.

I really enjoyed the Tim Russert condolences made by Governor Rendell:

Tim was the epitome of political journalists; someone who was very personable and could conduct very informative and sometimes riveting interviews,” Governor Rendell said. “Over the past few decades, Tim’s keen grasp of political issues in Washington and across the nation made him must see TV.

“As a newsmaker, I knew I had to be prepared when I was interviewed by him, because I knew he was very prepared. As moderator of ‘Meet the Press,’ he extracted information the general public needed to be better informed.

“Midge and I are shocked and saddened to hear of his untimely death and we express our condolences to Tim’s family and close friends.”

"Tim Russert’s wake is scheduled to begin in about an hour at St. Alban’s School on the grounds of the National Cathedral. The closed-casket wake will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. in the school’s Cafritz Refectory."
