Unhappy Teenage Boy Six Flags Decapitation In Georgia

A teenage boy died after being decapitated at Six Flags Over Georgia. He tried to scale two 6 foot high fences surrounding the Batman roller coaster when his head was struck by the ride. This decapitation at Six Flags in Georgia is the first to ever happen at the park. There are still a lot of questions surrounding the freak accident, and we won't have any solid answers for a day or two. The accident happened on June 28, 2008 at 2:00 PM.

The name of the teenager that died at Six Flags today has not been released yet. His family was with him in the theme park.

According to some witnesses that the park the boy was either climbing the fence that surrounds Batman to touch the ride or retrieve something that he had dropped on the ride.

No riders on the roller coaster were injured.

"We do not know why this person was intent on gaining access to this restricted area," the statement from Six Flags said, noting that multiple signs are posted stating, "Danger Zone," "Do Not Enter" and "Authorized Personnel Only."

What a horrible accident. My prayers go out to the teenager and his family.

I barely caught a piece on this boy decapitated at Six Flags over Georgis on the news. How horrible!!!! Just imagine the poor family.

I will bet ya that he was trying to get something that fell off the coaster. I've ridden that Batman ride myself and I can tell you that anything that isn't glued down will go flying off.

Just a very sad and scary story.

Yeah, it's every parents nightmare Alec for sure. Sigh....

I still haven't heard an official explanation for this yet. I agree that the boy jumping the fence at the Batman coaster to find a fallen object makes a lot of sense. It's got to be right.

I knew this reminded me of another Six Flags death/ accident. I looked it up and I remembered a story about a girl being injured on a ride at another Six Flags park:
A teenage girl’s legs were severed above the ankle while on a thrill ride at a popular amusement park on Thursday, park officials said.
The accident happened around 4:45 p.m. on the Superman Tower of Power at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom, said Six Flags spokeswoman Wendy Goldberg.

It is unclear at what point during the ride the girl, 13, was injured, Goldberg said. She was taken to a hospital, but there was no immediate word on her condition.

The ride lifts passengers 177 feet straight up, then drops 154 feet, reaching a speed of 54 mph, according to the park’s Web site.

Very sad indeed. Jesus can you imagine the scene. My prayers are with the teenager and his family.

If anyone is not familiar where this Six Flags accident happened, and what the batman ride is, I got some facts to share:

Six Flags Over Georgia - Six Flags Over Georgia is located on Interstate 20, just west of Atlanta. Their address is: Six Flags Over Georgia 275 Riverside Parkway, SW Austell, Georgia 30168 770-739-3400. Six Flags Over Georgia features state of the art thrill rides, including Goliath and Superman: Ultimate Flight, the South's only flying roller coaster! Plan to ride our most popular rides early in the day, or after 6 pm. Loose articles are not permitted on most rides and should be left with non-riders or secured in lockers. Six Flags and its employees are not responsible for lost or stolen items. Loose articles of any kind (including but not limited to purses, backpacks, and beverage containers) may not be taken past the queue entrance and cannot be left on the load/unload platform of the following rides: Goliath; Georgia Scorcher; Georgia Cyclone; Superman: Ultimate Flight. Cell phones, pagers, or other small items must be secured in cargo pockets, zippered jacket pockets, or waist packs. All loose articles which cannot be secured must be left in a locker or with a non-rider prior to entering the queue line.

Batman roller coaster ride - Six Flags designers attempted to capture the essence of Batman and his world while waiting in line for the ride. The beginning of the wait brings you into Gotham City Park, with a plaque that reads, "Dedicated to the citizens of Gotham City through the generosity of Bruce Wayne." Walking through the well kept environment can convince you that Gotham is a nice place. When you turn a corner, a well-kept advertising wall has graffiti and criminal tags on the other side. Park guests continue to enter an ominous environment as they get closer to the ride itself. Modeled after an award winning set design for the original film, guests find a crime ridden and dirty environment, with wrecked cars, discarded pieces of equipment, crumbling concrete, and even a Gotham City Police car with bullet holes riddled on one side. Guests then enter the structure, with a large fan waiting on the other end. You then rise into an environment resembling Axis Chemicals from the first film. The loading area is modeled after Batman's batcave, complete with a Batsuit vault on the other side of the track.

And here is a video of the ride:

I just got an update on the Six Flags accident:
The teen and his parents were at the park with a group from the Oakey Spring Baptist Church near Springfield, S.C., police said.

Police said the ride was going full-speed when the teen was struck. The ride's top speed is 50 mph, according to the park's Web site.

Six Flags said it closed the roller coaster after the Saturday afternoon accident out of respect for the teen's family. The ride was expected to reopen on Sunday, according to a Six Flags news release.
And another man was struck and killed on the same roller coaster:
In May 2002, 58-year-old groundskeeper Samuel Milton Guyton of Atlanta was killed after he wandered in a restricted area under the Batman roller coaster's path and was struck in the head by the dangling leg of one of the ride's passengers. The ride was closed for a day to allow the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration to inspect the ride. It was deemed safe for passengers.

God this is so sad. We were actually planning a trip to Atlanta too, but with the price of gas being so bad we decided to skip it. This 6 flags accident is every parent's worst nightmare!!

The incident with decpatiation was no accident. I'm sorry to say this but it was an idiot kid doing something he clearly should not have been doing. You cant say that is an accident if you ask me.
