Exclamation Andaman Islands India Earthquake

A strong earthquake just struck the Andaman Islands in India. India has been plagued by a number of strong earthquakes recently. Of course there were immediate concerns of a tsunami from this Andaman Islands earthquake. here's the story:

A 6.7-magnitude earthquake struck off India's Andaman Islands on Friday, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, officials and police said. The Indian Meteorological Department said the quake, which they described as moderate, struck at 5:40 p.m. at a depth of 6 miles. The quake, which was centered some 75 miles southwest of the Andaman capital, Port Blair, caused panic among residents but no damage or injuries, said Ranjit Narayan, the director general of police in the Andamans. The remote islands off the east coast of India were among the many areas devastated by the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. The official death toll across India was 10,749. Another 5,640 people — mostly in the Andaman and Nicobar islands — are listed as missing, presumed dead.

The epicenter, at 11.031 degrees north latitude and 91.906 degrees east latitude, is 115 kilometers southwest of Port Blair in Indian's Andaman Islands and 975 kilometers southwest of Thailand's capital Bangkok, U.S. Geological Survey said.

Whether international humanitarian aid is needed must be decided by an expert. However, the following automatically calculated elements can help. This earthquake has potentially a low humanitarian impact and the affected region has high vulnerability to natural disasters.
